BMI View: There is little prospect of change in Botswana’s power market in the short term. With ample domestic supplies of coal, the country has the potential to become a regional exporter of energy. However, ageing infrastructure and delays to expansion projects are holding back Botswana’s potential – Morupule B’s capacity is subjected to continual delays, while Morupule A produces only a fraction of the electricity that the country requires and is in need of refurbishment.
