BMI View:: As Europe’s largest energy consumer – excluding Russia – Germany is a critical market on the continent. However we have a bearish outlook for already limited domestic production, as mature fields decline. There is sizable upside from shale gas, with the country thought to contain significant but underexplored potential; however an uncertain regulatory outlook remains the key above ground obstacle to tapping the country’s unconventional resources.
