BMI View: The recent EU energy summit and the discussions surrounding renewables targets and subsidies reinforced the Czech Republic’s rather negative stance towards expanding its renewables energy industry. The government’s unwillingness to maintain high levels of financial support for the sector further dampens our outlook for Czech renewable energy developments, and as such we have downwardly revised our long-term forecasts. The country aims to develop its renewables industry so that it contributes at least 15-16% of the total energy consumption by 2030, a target that we consider unachievable at present.
