BMI View: Kazakhstan’s water sector is undergoing a period of regeneration. Water pollution has continually plagued the industry, which has been poorly governed and underfunded. However, money is now being poured into the country’s economy, courtesy of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with a strong project pipeline and new tariff regulation providing bright spots. Despite this, a water deficit is still on the cards and it will take more funding and legislation to bring about the reform needed.
